San Carlos, CA

Dentist Treatment room at Frank Hsu, DDS, your San Carlos Dentist office.Properly caring for your mouth with regular brushing, flossing and dental cleanings and exams, are essential for keeping your mouth healthy and preventing oral health complications. However, even with the best care, it is still possible to be faced with issues. Tooth decay, tooth injuries as a result of facial trauma, tooth loss and more can impact your oral health and your overall health. At Frank Hsu, D.D.S., we perform restorative dental services to give you back the health of your mouth, your smile, and your quality of life.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a modern treatment for replacing missing teeth. This treatment uses small titanium posts that are surgically implanted into the jawbone. The bone fuses to the implants, integrating them into your jaw. Fully fused, they become secure, stable roots that are used to support your replacement teeth; This treatment is highly versatile and can be used in a variety of situations, replacing one tooth to a whole arch of teeth.

Dental Fillings

Cavities form as a result of tooth decay. Tooth decay is the result of acid erosion, caused by those acids produced by plaque and bacteria. These acids wear the enamel, weakening it. Fillings are a common treatment for small to medium cavities. This treatment is used to fill in the cavities, restoring the health of your teeth and preventing further decay. Fillings are either silver amalgam, an exceptionally strong material that is made up of different metals suspended in mercury, or composite resin, a tooth-colored material that blends in perfectly with the rest of your natural tooth structure.

Dental Crowns

Crowns, which can be made from metal, porcelain fused to metal, or porcelain, are dental restorations used to restore damaged, or otherwise imperfect, teeth. They are caps that cover the entire visible portion of the teeth, restoring full function while protecting the tooth from further damage or bacterial infection. Porcelain crowns even work to restore the aesthetics of your smile.

Dental Bridges

Bridges are restorations that replace one to three missing teeth and fill in the gap between your healthy teeth. While there are several types of bridges, a fixed bridge is the most common. This restoration is made up of the replacement teeth set between two crowns. The crowns anchor the bridge into place on the adjacent healthy teeth.

Root Canals

Infections in your teeth are caused when bacteria enter into the inner layer of your teeth and irritate the pulp. The only way to eliminate the infection is with a root canal. This procedure involves drilling a small hole into the top of your tooth and using specialized tools to remove the pulp and nerves of the tooth. The canals are then shaped and cleaned and then filled with a special material called gutta percha. Finally, after the root canal is complete, the treated tooth is topped with a dental crown, which works to provide support and protection.

Tooth Extractions

When teeth are damaged, we always try to save them. Keeping your natural teeth in your mouth is always the preferred treatment. However, if the damage is too severe, the best option may be to extract the teeth. Teeth can be extracted in one of two ways, using a simple extraction or a surgical extraction. No matter how the teeth are extracted, they should be replaced as soon as possible when treatment is complete.

One Visit Crowns

Typically, crowns require two visits to complete. We can prepare your damaged tooth and place the crown all in one visit with same-day crowns. This procedure uses CAD/CAM technology to achieve this. We take a digital impression of your mouth, and the image appears on a computer monitor. Using specialized software, we can design a custom fit crown that will fit your tooth perfectly. Next, the information from this design is sent to our in-house milling machine. A single block of ceramic that matches the color of your natural teeth is placed into the machine, and your crown is fabricated. Once it is finished, it is checked for fit, polished, and cemented into place.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy provides an alternative to traditional gum disease treatment. Where traditional treatments can be invasive, causing a significant amount of bleeding, as well as pain and swelling in the recovery process. With laser therapy, we use a specialized tool that emits laser light into the periodontal pockets to eliminate bacterial buildup. This leaves your gum tissue intact. Once treatment is complete, the gums can begin to reattach to your teeth and restore a healthy, protective gum line. Not only is treatment minimally invasive, but your healing times and level of discomfort are also greatly reduced.
